ALICE COOPER Interviewed By Australia's DEFAMER; Audio Available
September 21, 2009Jess McGuire of Australia's Defamer recently conducted an interview with legendary rocker Alice Cooper. The chat can be streamed in four parts below.
In a recent interview with inMyCommunity, Cooper stated that his secret to longevity was avoiding the pitfalls that claimed so many others by sobering up before he could kill himself three decades ago.
"My big brothers back in L.A. were Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, all the guys that burnt out," he said.
"I was trying to keep up with them, but by the time I was 27 years old, I was ready to be committed.
"When you're 22, 23 and you have a couple of number one records, the world is pretty much at your feet and you’re indestructible, or at least you think you are."
Cooper said it took him some time to identify his alcoholism because he never missed a show despite rigorous tour schedules and the fact he was drinking a six-pack of beer before noon each day.
"When you wake up in the morning and you're throwing up blood, that's God's way of saying, 'I think you've had enough,'" he said.
"That's fine if you're on stage and it’s part of the show, but if it's only the Holiday Inn maid seeing it, well, obviously that got my attention.
"I went into hospital and came out a healed alcoholic."
